Who We Are – Beit Shmuel

The Beit Shmuel Kollel was established seventeen years ago, in the city of Elad. It began as a kollel framework for advanced Torah studies but gradually developed into a full-fledged community. The students learn together all week and pray together as a community on Shabbat.

The rabbis of the Kollel serve as mentors for their students, and the community distributes food baskets, vouchers, and other assistance before holidays — help that far exceeds that of a regular kollel. Because Beit Shmuel isn’t a regular kollel, it is both an international Torah Center and a warm, close-knit community.

Beit Shmuel is headed by the noted Dayan and Gaon, Harav Boaz Yosifov shlita, who serves as Av Beis Din of the Beit Shmuel Beit Din for Monetary Matters. Its activities are under the leadership of the Chief Ashkenazic Rabbi of the city, Harav Hagaon Rav Shlomo Zalman Grossman shlita.

To date, the Kollel has provided dozens of exceptionally trained Dayanim to the Jewish People. Each one completes a rigorous 12 year program. By the time they graduate, these scholars are renowned for their breadth of knowledge and decisive reasoning in all areas of the Torah and Jewish Law: Orach Chaim, Yoreh Deah, and Choshen Mishpat.

Thanks to the unique combined efforts of the Beit Shmuel Kollel, Beit Hora’ah, and Beit Din, we have not only resolved many thorny financial disputes, we have shaped public opinion — by demonstrating the advantages of adjudicating disagreements in a framework that adheres to Torah Law, and in a way that promotes genuine peace between people. This has inspired many people, who might otherwise have turned to secular courts, to resolve their issues at Beit Shmuel.

A Memorable Past

A Remarkable Future

After nearly two decades of renting various spaces, this new building will finally bring all of our programs under one roof. Construction of this permanent home for the Beit Shmuel Center is well underway. If you’re in Eretz Yisrael, you’re invited to come tour the building, see the study halls, and lobbies, and select which part of this enduring edifice you would like to sponsor. This is a merit that will bring you ROI for generations to come.

Like a stock that both appreciates and pays dividends, dedicating part of Beit Shmuel is an investment that will pay off twofold — in this world and the Next. You will be credited for training the Jewish People’s future scholars and leaders!

The Beit Din and Beit Hora’ah

The rabbis of the Beit Din are renowned for the exceptional expertise, particularly in the complex subject of Choshen Mishpat, monetary matters. The Dayanim provide Halachic guidance and answer questions sent by communities from across Israel, the U.S, and Europe. Even noted Dayanim from abroad attest that they regularly consult with, and rely upon, the scholars of our Kollel.
